TEDx talks turned into TEDTalks

Some TEDxTalks get chosen to be published on the TED.com homepage. When this happens, the original video gets adjusted for TED.com — the TEDx intro is replaced with the TED intro, parts of the video are edited out, etc.

However, both versions of the talk remain available on Amara. The reason for this is because subtitles are distributed through different channels: translations created on the TEDTalks (project in Amara) are linked and viewed on the TED.com talks, and subtitles created on the TEDxTalks project are linked to the videos on the TEDx Talks YouTube channel.

In order to make sure translation work is not being doubled by different volunteers, and to avoid any confusion, you can work on both tasks, adapting your translation to the timing and number of subtitles. Here are some tricks to help you in these situations:

1. Check Facebook. Every time a TEDxTalk gets posted to the TED homepage, we announce it in the I translate TEDTalks group.

2. Before you begin subtitling a talk, check the Comments tab (on the Video page) for a link to the original TEDxTalk.

3. If you're working on a TED Talk and you notice a TEDx sign behind the speaker, check for the original video in the TEDxTalks project.
