This page lists questions and answers about the role of Language Coordinators in Amara.

As an LC, I seem to be able to review my own translations. Is that normal?

LCs are approving translations before publication. This job was being done by the TED staff up to now, but since they do not know 89 languages, this task has been transferred to the Language Coordinators. Because there are languages with only one Language Coordinator, LCs can approve their own work. They can also choose to ask a co-LC to review their work, if there's more than one LC in their language.

What is the "Approve" option for that I see, besides "Transcribe", "Translate" and "Review"?

The "Approve" button is for approving translations for publication, a task previously performed by the TED Staff and now transferred to LCs.

What can I do to create a new review task?

If while approving translations, you spot an approval task created after a translator of a wrong language took and submitted a review task without making any changes, you can easily revert it to a review task, by performing the approve task, and sending it back. From there, a review task will be created and will be assigned to the reviewer (who accidentally took it), which you can reassign to "----" which will make it unassigned for anyone to review.

If the reviewer did alter the subtitles, quickly compare the reviewer's revision with the most recent translator's revision. In the approve task, you can correct the inaccurate work the reviewer did, then send back and reassign the review task to "----".

I see English transcriptions for approval in my tasks list. Am I suppose to approve them?

No, this is a bug. It's being fixed. LCs are not supposed to approve transcriptions.

Is there a change in the approval of new translators in Amara?

In the near future, this role will also be transferred to LCs. This option has not been activated yet.

How can I make a 'stuck' translation available to the pool of translators?

In the past, translations that were left unfinished by translators were not automatically released after the expiration date. This explains why you might find old unfinished translations in Amara, assigned to people who are no longer active in the OTP. To release them, go to a the Task, hit the Reassign button, then choose "------" at the top of the drop-down menu, which indicates that the task should go back to the general request pool.

As TED translators, are we able to translate in any language other than the language assigned by TED?

Currently, anyone can take translation tasks in any language, but LC's can only approve in their language.
